A new dragon boat club that has started in the Blue Mountains has received a boost with a grant recommended by Federal Member for Macquarie Susan Templeman.
Blue Mountains Dragon Boat Club started in 2020 and by early this year had more than 80 expressions of interest from prospective members, so was affiliated with the Western Region by Dragon Boats NSW.
“The club has purchased some equipment and plans to buy more, so members can paddle on Wentworth Falls Lake,” Ms Templeman said.
“The aim of the club is to provide “fun, fitness and friendship” for its members, and participate in the wider dragon boat community.
“I had a chance to see the Mountain Dragons’ boat earlier this year – called Yo Banfa - and it’s a beauty!
“The club submitted a very thorough application under the Stronger Communities grant for the purchase of equipment to help them start up, and I was very happy their application that my independent panel recommended was approved.
“They will receive $3,000 worth of funding under the grant, which will go a long way to helping the fledging club get off the ground – and into the water.
“I congratulate the club on its successful application and I look forward to seeing the members on the water very soon.”
