An election commitment by Federal Member for Macquarie, Susan Templeman, to deliver improved mobile coverage for Yellow Rock, is a step closer with the selection of a site for a new base station to be funded by the Albanese Government.
Amplitel, on behalf of Telstra, are proposing the new base station at 23-57 Illingworth Road, Yellow Rock, and are seeking the input of residents before they make a formal development application.
Ms Templeman is encouraging residents to look at the proposal, funded under the government’s Improving Mobile Coverage Round, with both Telstra and the federal government investing in this project.
“The new tower will provide more reliable phone coverage making it more viable for people to work from home and run small businesses, and helping them stay connected with family and friends,” Ms Templeman said.
“And those of us living in these bushfire prone areas understand only too well how essential that mobile coverage becomes when it’s fire season, which is one of the reasons I made this commitment to the community here in Yellow Rock.
Ms Templeman says ensuring communities across the Blue Mountains are better connected has been a priority for her and she welcomes Amplitel’s efforts to engage with the community early in the process.
“The construction of a project like this is always going to generate community interest and it’s vital that Amplitel is taking the steps needed to ensure the project meets community needs and expectations.
“Delivering improved mobile connectivity for communities in the Blue Mountains has always been a priority of mine, it’s a commitment I took to the election, and it’s a priority for the Albanese Government, so I will be following this process closely.
“Consultation is open until the 16th of August, and I encourage residents to take a look at their proposal and have their say now.”
