Federal Member for Macquarie, Susan Templeman, has welcomed funding that has been approved for Men’s and Women’s Shed groups in the Blue Mountains.
Central Mountains Men’s Shed received $1000 after Ms Templeman helped the group secure funding under the federal Volunteer Grants scheme, to be used for first aid training.
“The Central Mountains Men’s Shed is a terrific example of the role Men’s Sheds play – it’s about coming together in a place with other blokes and being able to talk about life while working side by side on projects,” Ms Templeman said.
“I was particularly impressed with the organisation of the Lawson shed. There is a place for everything and everything in its place.
“I am also very appreciative of the beautiful timber bread board they made for me – an example of the quality of the work they produce.
“There has been an awful lot of work put into this shed by its members, and I really congratulate them on what they’ve created.
“The Central Mountains Men’s Shed is also providing support to members of the Blue Mountains Women’s Shed.
“Thanks to a Supplementary round of the Volunteer Grants scheme, the Women’s Shed has received nearly $5000, which will allow members to purchase a generator to use at workshops, as well as laptops with up-to-date software for their admins.”
Ms Templeman said both groups played an important role in not only providing a social outlet but for improving mental health.
“I’ve visited Men’s Sheds across the electorate and every time I visit, members will tell me of someone who has flourished since they joined the group,” Ms Templeman said.
“There’s always a story about one of the members who started coming and wasn’t really sure if it was for him, but then found out how much support and encouragement the Men’s Shed offered.
“It’s really touching to hear how this movement has turned lives around.
