Richmond North Public Schools students will soon be enjoying a new playground thanks, in part, to a Commonwealth grant recommended by Federal Member for Macquarie, Susan Templeman.
The school received $20,000 in Federal funding for the installation of a sandpit and play area, a car track, additional seating and extra shade area.
Ms Templeman visited the school on Tuesday, August 4 to see the progress on the new play area, which is nearing completion.
“This new playground will offer more options for creative and active play in a sun-safe environment, with shades in the school colours of red and black,” Ms Templeman said.
“The project came about as the result of extensive consultation with the school’s P&C and students. The P&C did some really effective fundraising for it which was actively supported by parents, local business and the wider community.
“It’s great to see a school so well supported by its local community.”
While she was at the school, Ms Templeman also presented the student leaders with a new flag, and got the chance to revisit her days as a radio journalist.
“I was really honoured to be a guest on Richmond North Public School’s radio, Studio K, which broadcast all day for the very first time on August 4,” Ms Templeman said.
“The all-day broadcast meant that all students from Kindergarten to Year Six had the chance to be broadcast on Studio K.
“I know there would have been many parents and grandparents tuning in, and the school’s administration staff had the station playing in the office so everyone who came in could hear the students on the air.
