Pitt Town Progress Association members can now complete their generous work for the local community more efficiently after taking charge of a new ride-on lawn mower partially funded by a Federal grant recommended by Member for Macquarie, Susan Templeman.
The association received $3,750 under the 2021 Volunteer Grants program, with the rest of the mower’s cost funded with the support of Lynwood Country Club.
“Pitt Town Progress Association members do generous work mowing and maintaining the lawns and gardens of local residents who are too unwell, or simply unable, to do it themselves,” Ms Templeman said.
“They also maintain the entrances to the town, as well as footpaths, parks, community areas, and about a kilometre-long stretch of riverbank that is in community ownership.
“But they were using their own push mowers and were limited by equipment size, design, and the sheer physical exertion required to operate machinery in such a large area.
“Alongside Lynwood Country Club – who are huge supporters of their neighbours - I was delighted to assist the association in applying for this grant.
“The new ride-on has had its inaugural mow and is being put to excellent use. Members have told me it’s enabling them to complete a greater number of projects, and larger jobs, in a shorter time with far less physical exertion.
