Blaxland Football Club is continuing to kick goals after new goal posts and fencing was purchased, helped by $10,000 in funding recommended by Federal Member for Macquarie, Susan Templeman.

The club installed the fencing and goal at its training field after successfully applying for funding under the Macquarie Stronger Communities program in 2019.

“The new fencing stops the ball from bouncing onto the rooves or bonnets of nearby parked cars, and the new goal means the club can run dedicated goal keeping or striking drills without tearing up its competition fields,” Ms Templeman said.

“The club has 50 teams this year and 575 players, so I was really pleased to be able to deliver improved facilities that can benefit so many.

“It was wonderful to visit the club on the weekend and see the improvements, and I was very happy to meet members of the U4 Tigers, who showed off their skills and gave me a few tips.

“The latest round of the Stronger Communities program saw nearly $1 million in applications come in from Blue Mountains and Hawkesbury organisations for just $150,000 in funding.

“I think it’s clear more project funding is needed for community organisations, whether they be charities, historical societies and museums, service groups, arts organisations, churches, sporting groups, or school P&C groups to name just a few. Too many worthy groups are missing out on funding.

“I commend the work of Blaxland Football Club’s President Steve Myhill and the committee for the hard work they continue to put into improving facilities for their members.”
