More than 2500 homes and businesses in Macquarie – mainly in the Hawkesbury but also across the mountains – can now order uncapped satellite broadband services on Sky muster.
I know most people won’t be aware of the failures of the skymuster satellite service in reliability, availability of data access and speeds, but the arrival of the privately owned StarLink really highlighted how second rate it was.
Having urged for improvements in satellite service for many years, particularly obvious during the pandemic when people had no choice but to work from home, I am very pleased we’re seeing improvements.
After a successful trial the new NBN Sky Muster Plus Premium service gives customers unmetered data 24 hours a day and faster speeds of up to 100 Mbps.
The unmetered service has been enabled by the Albanese Government’s $480 million investment to upgrade NBN Fixed Wireless services that is moving around 120,0000 premises from satellite to fixed wireless, freeing up capacity on Sky Muster.
The trials showed big improvements in user satisfaction, and I hope we see the same with the rollout.
Across the Sky Muster, fixed wireless and fixed-line networks, the Albanese Government is improving the NBN to give Australians access to 21st century communications infrastructure they need and deserve, including by investing $2.4 billion to expand full-fibre NBN which will benefit FTTN residents in the mid-Upper mountains in coming months.
