What would you do with up to $20,000 to protect our local environment?

Federal Member for Macquarie, Susan Templeman, said $150,000 funding was available to fund up to twenty local projects under the Macquarie Communities Environment Program.

“Grants of between $2,500 and $20,000 for small scale, community-led environmental project are up for grabs,” Ms Templeman said.

“There are many types of projects that can be funded including (but not limited to) monitoring of local flora, fauna or water quality; supporting recovery of threatened species; and projects to reduce weeds and pests.

“The funding can also be used for seed collection, propagation and planting of trees and understorey to rehabilitate degraded habitats, riverbanks or wetlands.

“You can also apply for funding to install fences or infrastructure such as boardwalks, to do litter clean up events or programs, or run workshops to increase community skills in monitoring, conserving, or protecting threatened species, ecological communities or other important environmental assets.

“I encourage not-for-profit organisations in the Blue Mountains and Hawkesbury to check the eligibility criteria and before submitting an expression of interest to my office.

Submissions close 5:00 pm on Wednesday 18 September 2019. All applications will be assessed with the assistance of a Local Advisory Committee. Up to 20 projects will then be assessed by the Department of Industry, Innovation and Science for approval.
