Federal Member for Macquarie, Susan Templeman, has presented three flags to the newly-opened PCYC and long-term resident of the facility, the Hawkesbury District Basketball Association.

The PCYC opened in July of this year, and Ms Templeman toured the South Windsor centre during a visit last month.

“It was really important to the PCYC that this venue is inclusive of all, and by presenting three new flags – the Australian flag, Aboriginal flag and Torres Strait Island flag – to representatives of the PCYC and Hawkesbury Jets, we help reinforce that message,” Ms Templeman said.

“I had a look at the new Covid-safe gym, and I was also pleased to see the new safety improvements the Hawkesbury Jets have made following the awarding of a Federal grant last year.

“I secured for the Hawkesbury District Basketball Association a $10,000 grant to install new wall padding on its main courts to help with player safety.

“The club had been fundraising for quite some time for the padding, which will allow it to host higher levels of basketball competition.

“I was really pleased to be able to help the club out with this funding.

“With a high awareness of the need for COVID-19 precautions, it’s great to see both the PCYC and Hawkesbury Jets putting safety first for everyone who attends the centre.

“It will be good to see all three flags flying proudly at South Windsor.”

Clubs or associations that would like a new Australian, Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander flag should contact Ms Templeman’s office via email: [email protected].
