FURTHER FUNDING FOR PENRITH WOMEN'S HEALTH CENTRE

The Albanese Labor Government recognises the importance of accessible and specialised support for victim-survivors of family, domestic, and sexual violence with the announcement of $253,000 in additional funding for Penrith Women’s Health Centre.

The funding is being extended until June 2025 to ensure Penrith Women’s Health Centre can continue to provide services to the diverse needs of women throughout Macquarie.

Member for Macquarie Susan Templeman, said this funding is welcomed as it will provide access to dedicated women’s health services.

“This funding will provide women from the Blue Mountains, Hawkesbury and Penrith, who face diverse and complex barriers, to access the essential services provided by Penrith Women’s Health Centre.” said Ms Templeman.

“The incredible team at Penrith Women’s Health Centre has told me that this funding will allow them to increase the support they can offer to victim-survivors of domestic and family violence,” said Ms Templeman.

“We’ve all seen a worrying surge in media reports about violence against women and children. At a local level Penrith Women’s Health Centre tell me that they have seen increase in people seeking their services, so this funding will help them provide real support for these women.

“We want women in Western Sydney to know that we are backing them, supporting their needs, and will continue to assist where we can.”

Minister for Social Services Amanda Rishworth highlighted the importance of ensuring victim-survivors of family, domestic, and sexual violence across Australia are able to access safe and specialised services.

“As we continue to work towards the goals of the National Plan to End Violence against Women and Children, we need to make sure that help is available to everyone when they need it.

“Funding local centres that understand the needs of the community is one important part of this.”
