Sports clubs in the Hawkesbury have received a massive boost after $30,000 worth of grants funding recommended by Federal Member for Macquarie, Susan Templeman, was approved to improve their facilities.
The Hawkesbury Hornets BMX Club and Hawkesbury Netball Association each received $15,000 under the Stronger Communities grants program.
“Hawkesbury Hornets’ Colbee Park track is of a championships standard, and this grant will provide a new starting gate to promote the allocation of more events there,” Ms Templeman said.
“It will also give riders a very safe start to their races, as it ensures nothing can become trapped under the gate as it drops at the start of a race.
“Hawkesbury Netball Association’s Mileham Street courts currently have no undercover area for either training or competition matches, which you can really feel during bad weather.
“The association has received $15,000 to help build an undercover area providing shade in summer and shelter from the rain, which will help the teams competing in the NSW State League Netball Championships that train for most of the year as well as those doing fitness training.
“It will also make it a bit more comfortable for members of the public that use the facilities.
“I was really pleased to help deliver this significant investment in sporting facilities in the Hawkesbury through these grants, which were highly competitive.
“In fact, my office received nearly $1 million in applications for just $150,000 in funding.
“I congratulate both clubs on their thorough and successful applications.”
