Those accessing cancer therapies have been feeling a little more comfortable after funding secured by Federal Member for Macquarie, Susan Templeman, saw new air conditioners installed at Leura’s Cancer Wellness Support centre.

More than $6,000 was provided through the Federal Stronger Communities program for the new system to be installed at the Robyn Yates Centre last year.

“Cancer Wellness Support provides a really important service to cancer patients in our community, including subsidised therapies like counselling, support groups and audio visual resources,” Ms Templeman said.

“It’s important that those affected by cancer - as well as those who provide their therapy and support - feel comfortable during their time at the centre.

“I was really pleased to be able to recommend this funding for the Robyn Yates Centre, particularly in the year that the service celebrated its 15^th birthday.

“Unfortunately, it was also the year we lost the highly-respected founder of the service, Robyn Yates OAM, which has left a great hole in our community.

“Cancer Wellness Support provided more than 4,900 therapies in 2019/20, and I was pleased to be able to visit last year and see the COVID-safe manner in which the service operated in such a difficult year.”

Applications for the next round of the Stronger Communities program open on January 19, providing $150,000 for up to 20 capital projects for groups in the Blue Mountains and Hawkesbury area.
